In the conventional free market formulation of economics the role of community is downplayed. However community is what creates the social capital on which we can then build our economic systems.
This is especially true for gift economies.
Gift economies depend on the generosity of individuals. And this generosity is usually much more pervasive when there is also a sense of community.
In our gift circles the sense of community helps create an atmosphere of generosity where we are willing to help our fellow circle-members.
