There is one theory that economics is about maximizing one’s self-interest. A lot of neoliberal capitalistic economics is based on this assumption.
Then there are economic theories that one can build on the assumption that people also care about other people’s interests. Some of these theories may involve possibilities for gift economies.
Then there are economic theories that one can build on the realization that comes as one accesses higher consciousness states, that the self is in some ways an illusion. It doesn’t really exist. I haven’t heard of any economic theories yet that incorporate this spiritual realization.
